Sayana Press is injected into the skin of your front upper thigh or abdomen(away from your navel).
You will need to take Sayana Press once every 3 months (12 to 14 weeks). You can start on the first day of your menstrual period and be protected immediately or you can chose to start this contraceptive injection any day you want,once it is confirmed that you are not already pregnant (do a pregnancy test) but you would need to use a condom for the first 7 days.

Sayana Press is 99.9% effective at preventing pregnancy.

Some women may experience side effects while others will not. Common side effects to expect include menstrual changes, Nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache and dizziness, weight gain, weight loss and no menstrual flow.Some of these side effects are temporary and may be gone in the first few months, but many women will experience irregular menses and spotting when they first start and this will decrease in the first few months of use till there’s no menses.

While using Sayana Press, not seeing your period is not a sign of ill health or pregnancy and when you stop using Sayana Press your periods will return to normal in a few months.
