DKT International Nigeria donates 218,000 units of IUDs in commemoration of World Contraception Day 2023.

LAGOS, Nigeria - September 26, 2023 - In a significant move to empower women and enhance family planning efforts in Nigeria, DKT Nigeria proudly announces the donation of 218,000 units of Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) to five(5) State Ministries of Health in Nigeria namely Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Ogun, and Rivers States respectively in celebration of World Contraception Day.

The World Contraception Day, usually observed annually on September 26th, serves as a global reminder of the critical role contraception plays in improving the lives of women of reproductive age and families, promoting gender equality, and contributing to sustainable development. This year, DKT Nigeria takes center stage by taking pragmatic steps to observe this all-important day as part of efforts to address the need for accessible and affordable contraceptive options in Nigeria in tandem with this year's theme-"The power of options".

Promoting Family Planning and Reproductive Health

Since its inception, DKT Nigeria has remained resolute in its commitment to advancing and promoting reproductive health across the nation. The donation of these IUDs is a testament to the organization's dedication to improving access to reliable and safe contraceptive methods for all Nigerian women.

"We recognize the critical role of contraceptives in empowering women to take control of their reproductive health," said Mr. Vasilis Katsikakis, Country Director, DKT Nigeria. "By providing these IUDs, we are not only supporting women's choices but also contributing to healthier families and communities."

Addressing Contraception Needs

Despite significant strides in the sphere of reproductive health in Nigeria, access to long-term contraceptive methods remains limited for many. This donation seeks to bridge that gap and provide women with an effective, long-lasting contraceptive solution.

The Country Director added, "With this donation, we hope to reach more women, particularly in underserved and or hard-to-reach areas, ensuring that they have access to quality reproductive products and health services".

Educating and Empowering Communities

Beyond providing contraceptives, DKT Nigeria remains committed to educating communities about the benefits of family planning and the range of contraceptive options available. As part of the World Contraception Day celebrations, the organization will also embark on a series of outreach programs to raise awareness and train healthcare professionals in IUD insertion and aftercare.

In the words of the Commercial Director, Mr. Macaulay Gory, "DKT Nigeria is gradually changing the contraceptive landscape in Nigeria through training and education of family planning service providers across the country and consequently increasing contraceptive uptake, and contraceptive awareness while stemming the tides of maternal mortality, and unwanted pregnancies"

Looking Ahead

As DKT Nigeria marks this year's World Contraceptive Day with its significant donations, we remain optimistic about the future. "Our vision is to have a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every woman has the right to choose and the means to exercise that choice," remarked Mr. Macaulay Gory, Commercial Director at DKT Nigeria”. "Our mission continues, and we remain resolute in our goal to transform lives and communities."
